Several fire departments responded to the scene.

A home under construction in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, caught fire Tuesday night, with several fire departments responding to control the flames, officials said.

The fire engulfed a three-story house that was under construction, affecting two additional homes within 20 feet of the building which suffered “serious exposure issues,” according to Portsmouth Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Howie Tighe.

The Portsmouth Fire Department received multiple 911 calls reporting a building fire on East Terrace, according to the department, but upon arrival, there was no fire at that location.

Authorities found the fire at a new development called Sea Spray Drive, Tighe told Boston.com.

The two other homes were damaged but are still habitable, Tighe said.

A second alarm brought in fire departments from Newport, Bristol, and Tiverton.

Officials were able to quickly put water on the fire through master streams and an aerial ladder, containing the fire to the building where it originated.

There were no injuries caused by the fire, the department reported, and it took about one hour to put the fire out.

Companies remained at the scene all night due to hotspots, according to Tighe.

The fire is still under investigation.
