ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum Valley Garden Society held its 22nd Annual Spring Fever Home Gardening Symposium today at the Ohio University Zanesville Campus Center.
This is the group’s biggest fundraiser of the year and featured expert speakers on topics like backyard landscaping, native planting and coexisting with wildlife. Attendees browsed vendor booths, took part in a silent auction and met others who share a passion for gardening.
“This is our biggest fundraiser we have for the year, this is our 22nd Spring Symposium, we have a silent auction, we have speakers, some vendors, we also have some local artists that have some booths, it’s great, it gets the community together, it’s a very big educational event for us and just kind of gets the Spring season started,” said The Muskingum Valley Garden Society President, Heidi Williams.
The Muskingum Valley Garden Society works to beautify the community. Since 2006 they have planted and maintained the Downtown Zanesville Planters, which now includes over 150 containers filled with seasonal flowers. Their efforts are supported by local businesses and donors.
“The volunteers of this organization are just very kind people, and very committed to the community, we do a lot, we do all the plantings downtown, being whether it’s summer, winter…the Y-Bridge, we’re going to do the 6th Street bridge, so we’re very community minded and I think that’s important,” said Muskingum Valley Garden Society volunteer Kim Thomas.
The society is always looking for volunteers. Anyone interested in helping out or learning more about future events can find details on their Facebook page, Muskingum Valley Garden Society, or on their website mvgardensociety.org.
